The Letter to the Ephesians, Pt. 4

What is grace? What is faith? Why do they matter so much? Was our situation really that bad without Jesus? We address these questions as we dive into the second chapter of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians this week. Whether you’ve been following along or are just joining now - these questions are ones that we all find ourselves asking at some point.

Anchor Text:

Ephesians 2:1-10 ESVUK - By Grace Through Faith

Questions to Ponder:

  1. Practice: Read through Ephesians 2:1-10 alone or together. Then, read it in a different translation (e.g. first ESV, then NIV).

  2. What stands out to you about the verses? Are there different key words translated in the two different versions? What phrases or words speak to you clearly OR bring up questions in your mind?

  3. Try giving a simple explanation of why faith isn’t a work. Is there a helpful example you can think of to back this up?

  4. What are some differences between God’s wrath and our common understanding of human wrath?

  5. How would you define “grace”? What is grace in the context of Ephesians 2:1-10?

The Theme in Song:

This song should be familiar to some of you, since we’ve sung it here numerous times at church - but I couldn’t resist putting it in the companion this week. It blends together many themes of the Letter to the Ephesians that we’ve already talked about in Chapters 1 and 2. If its new or old to you, enjoy and praise God for the grace He’s given us through faith!
