Pastor’s Piece on the Master’s Peace #40

Luke 5:5

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” (NLT)

Overcoming Failure (Principle #3)

Thus far we have talked about two of three Principles you must incorporate into your life if you want to overcome failure.

PRINCIPLE #1 Include Gods Presence In Your Life: Luke 5:3. The starting point for overcoming failure is that you’ve got to get Jesus in your boat. In Peter’s life, his boat represented his livelihood. For Peter, his boat was his business. In essence, Jesus used Peter’s business as a platform for ministry. We then asked the question: Have you ever considered letting God use your business or workplace as a platform for ministry?

The second principle of overcoming failure is PRINCIPLE #2 – Cooperate With God: Luke 5:4  “When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” NKJV

We must not only appropriate Gods presence in our lives, but we must be obedient to Him when He is there. Notice that Jesus told Peter, where to fish, when to fish and how to fish.

God has called us to be fishers of men. This means we carry a message that God wants all to hear. When God is in control of your life, He will tell you where to witness, when to Witness and how to witness.

The third Principle we must incorporate is

PRINCIPLE #3 – Expect God To Act

Luke 5:5  “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” (NLT)

Notice that Jesus did not say to Peter, Peter if you do this, here is the result. He didn’t need to say that because Peter knew that if Jesus was involved, it wasn’t going to fail. He expected God to act.

Here is the question for you and me today.   Do you expect God to act in your life?

You may be thinking, well that’s all well and good Pastor Ralph, but You don’t know my circumstances.

May I suggest that if you are defeated by the situation you find yourself in that you begin claiming a promise from God to you from the bible.

For example: If you are discouraged this morning, there is a powerful promise from God for you in His Word that you need to look up and memorize.  Ps 30:11-12 “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!”

If you start expecting God to act, you will find that Gods promise will inject new hope into a hopeless situation. Got a rough marriage? Catch Gods vision for your marriage and never give up pursuing that vision.

God says, let me get into your boat. Let My presence be with you wherever you go – in your business, in your family, in your marriage, in every area. The results?

Look at the disciples. They caught so many fish their nets began to break. In fact the disciples had to share the results with those in another boat to keep from sinking.

This of course is another truism about being obedient. Often your obedience blesses others.  God wants to bless other people through you.

Three principles to overcoming failure. 1. Include Gods presence in your life. 2. Cooperate with God. 3. Expect God to Act.

May God bless you as you journey with Him to overcome failures in your life.
