1 Peter - Final Week

This week we’re once again looking at the big picture of 1 Peter as we wrap up our 8-week series. We’ll be reviewing themes from the whole book and looking specifically at how Peter closes his thoughts in chapter 5. If you are able I strongly encourage you to read 1 Peter in its entirety before or after Sunday worship. The whole letter only takes about 23 minutes to read. If you are looking for an easier to follow version, the NLT is linked below and offerings a easier reading experience than versions like the ESV or NASB.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What big themes or ideas did Peter cover in his letter?

  2. What does Peter say about being humble in chapter 5? Why sum up the whole letter by talking about humility?

  3. Read 5:6 again. It says God will “lift you up” - but what does this mean? Can you desribe how verse 6 applys to a specific situation in your life?

  4. After studying 1 Peter, what are some of the topics or ideas that you remember studying and why are they important to you?

  5. Jesus is calling all of us to stand firm and suffer for the sake of the gospel - what does that look like for you in the season of life you are in?

The Theme in Song:

There are many songs written about the call to sacrifice and suffering that the Christian life must be. In one such song, Steven Curtis Champman sings about the sacrifice of the Apostles when they followed Jesus’s call, and how that same sacrifice and suffering continued for them after Jesus’ ascension. And for 2000 years we have continued in their footsteps, let’s not forget that that call to follow Jesus isn’t about fame and recognition, but about answering his personal call on our lives as his people and his church.
