Advent Conspiracy #2

We are in week two of Advent, I have to say that advent is one of my favourite church seasons and I am amazed how God works through advent and our anticipation of Jesus’s return. As Pastor Nate mentioned and showed us last week we are going through advent conspiracy which is a great advent ministry based on re shaping how we look at Christmas as modern day Christ followers, last week we looked at worshiping fully and we looked at giving credit where credit is due, and Christ our king is due all the credit and our worship.

This week we will look at the theme of spend less, this week is not about looking at our spending and being filled with guilt but honestly looking at our lives at Christmas, how we spend our money, time and resources and how all those things belong to Christ, this wee we will look at spending through the lens of a wonderful passage in Matthew. We will look directly at Jesus teaching on treasure and how first and foremost we serve him first, through out time, money and resources.

I think this image says a lot, it’s by a artist names Banksy. Though he is not a follower of Christ that I am aware of its good for us as christians to interact with art and culture, both secular and Christian and I think banksys art speaks volumes.

Questions to Ponder

  1. Where is it tempting for you to be a consumer and to over-indulge?

  2. Time is as valuable as money, how do you find that you spend your time?

  3. What area of your life do you struggle with discontentment?

  4. In what ways do you need to spend less: less money, less time, less energy?

  5. Read the story of the rich young ruler in Matthew 19:16-22, why was it so hard for him to give up his possessions? Do you think he came back later and did as Jesus commanded?

  6. Do you find more or less peace at Christmas time? are peace and contentment the same thing?

Above is a family devotional video that takes about peace which is how we will end our service this Sunday, looking at the philippians verse and about peace and contentment, my hope is that as families you watch and reflect on the peace that only Christ can bring.

Below Is a song by a artist names John Mark McMillan, when we look at the end of our passage, it reminds us that we serve a wonderful master, Christ who did not come with armoured guard or sword but came as a baby to bring peace, joy, love and hope.
