Back in Stride

I (Pastor Nate) may have been gone for a little while, but God never stops working! I’ve seen the grace of God at work in this congregation through events, teaching, worship, and prayer, and I’m so excited to get back into the rhythms of this church. This week, we’re going to pause to reflect on this season that we’ve just come through.

Before I left for parental leave, I told many people that I was excited for the church to hear the voices of different people on a wide range of topics. This week, we’re going to revisit a few of the places we’ve been in the scriptures to help us remember what God has laid on our hearts. I truly hope we didn’t stop “running the race” for two months, but rather, we were perhaps in a different stride. I’m excited to reflect, look ahead, and get back in stride together!

Anchor Texts:

Since we’re reviewing several sermons today, the anchor texts are just a small selection of what we covered.

2 Chronicles 33:1-20 NIV - Manasseh King of Judah

2 Peter 3:8-9 NIV - But do not forget

Psalm 118 NRSVA

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What are some of the ways Christians can hold authorities and people in power to account for their actions? What limitations or descriptions can you think of from the Bible? (Look at Romans 13:1-5, 1 Peter 2:17, Acts 5:27-29)

  2. We heard from Pastor Brian, Claran Martin, Jesse Britton, Deve Persad, Celebrate Recovery, Bruce Michael, and David Baker while I was away - did God especially get your attention through one of them or in some other way? Share about it.

  3. Is there some topic in the Bible, theology, or life that you’ve been wrestling with lately? What is it? Share and consider letting Pastor Nate know so we can preach and discuss the topic further. Who knows— There are likely others with the same questions!

The Theme in Song:

One of the themes that was so critical to the witness of the church was from Pastor Brian’s sermon on Anniversary Sunday. Thing song by Brian Doerksen is the exact same theme put to song that we must all remember as we move forward as the family of God!
