Ephesians Pt. 15

What do singing with one another, giving thanks to God, and submitting to one another have in common? We’ll find out this week!

Priscilla and Aquilla, and Apollos

Although this week’s passage is Ephesians 5:21-33, we’re going to learn that the passage really begins in 5:18, and goes all the way to 6:9. The key that unites this whole passage together is the phrase “be filled with the spirit” in v. 18. Everything, both grammatically and logically, depends on that phrase until we get to the next section where we are to “be clothed with God’s armour”.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What do we learn about wives if they are to be like the church in Paul’s analogy?

  2. What do we learn about husbands if they are to be like Christ in Paul’s analogy?

  3. In a group with women - what do the women find concerning about this passage? Are those concerns applicable if the husband is being Christ-like?

  4. Does this passage primarily exist to grant men authority or to demand Christ-like behaviour in the home? Or something else?

  5. Does this passage expect a wife (or husband) to submit to their spouse if they are not a Christian or not living a godly life? (Hint 1 Corinthians 7:12-16 has something to add to this.)
