Family Sunday: What Happened to Adam and Eve?

Adam and Eve, Mihai Cristi, Romania

We’ve begun a practice here at UTMC of doing Family Sundays on a regular basis. These services are intended to get us all interacting with each other and with the Bible in a way that everyone can understand. The songs are a bit more kid friendly, there is bible memory. We do stories, videos, and the message is a little shorter, too. All of this makes the bible-learning experience a little more hands-on, and hopefully that helps us all realize that following Jesus is active and hands-on! We can’t follow Jesus if we’re just stuck in our chairs!

Anchor Passages:

Genesis 2:8-9, 21-25 NIV

Genesis 3 NIV

TRY THIS TOGETHER!:

Both of these passages have a corresponding video below. Try reading the passage first together and then watch the video.

What parts from the text are included in the video? What parts are left out of the video?

Are there any parts added into the video that aren’t in the text? Why do you think they are there?

A few More Questions to ponder:

  1. How does knowing the story of Adam and Eve’s creation help us understand ourselves?

  2. Why do you think Eve is made of Adam’s “side” or “rib” (depending on the translation - “side” might be a more helpful translation)?

  3. How does knowing the story of Adam and Eve’s fall help us understand ourselves and the world around us?

  4. Define sin in your own words.

  5. What are the hopeful parts of the story that you see in these passages? Do you see Jesus foreshadowed?

  6. Lastly and most importantly, do you think the crafty snake had legs before he was cursed?!

The Theme for Kids:

These two videos this week help us to understand both why God made us and what happened to bring us from a perfect past to a broken world that we see around us today. We’ve got to know how sin got into our lives if we’re going to learn the truth about how to get it out again!
