Forgiveness- Pt. 1 “God to Us”
Over the next 5 weeks we’re going to be looking at the amazing story of forgiveness found in the Bible. It’s a fitting way to celebrate thanksgiving as well, as “forgiveness” is the great focal point of the “Eucharist” (the Lord’s Supper). Fun fact: Eucharist means “thanksgiving.” Did you know that? Jesus raised up the Bread and the wine at the last supper and “gave thanks” or “eucharisto” (the original Greek word the apostles used). So “Thanksgiving” and “forgiveness” go hand in hand. Let’s explore God’s incredible gift of forgiveness offered to us this week.

Leviticus 17:10-14 NET - Prohibition against Eating Blood - Bible Gateway
Questions to Ponder:
Read Matthew 26:27 - How was Jesus’ body “broken” for us?
What does “for us” mean in the verse above? Why was this necessary?
Why is drinking blood in v.28 a shocking image? What did it imply?
Jesus says his body and blood were given specifically for the forgiveness of sins - but when else was made possible through the crucificxion (and resurrection)?
Does the prohibition on eating blood in Leviticus still matter today in any way?
Was there anything the disciples had to do in order to participate in the last supper, or in this Matthew 26:27-28/its surrounding context did Jesus give them any instructions on what to do to receive forgiveness of sins?
Thanksgiving in Song:
This wonderful song points us toward our two main themes today - forgiveness through the blood of Christ and our posture toward God’s greatest gift - Thanksgiving!
