We’ve been looking at the book of Exodus for a couple weeks and studying the ways Israel went through the miraculous transition from slaves in Egypt to a newborn nation. September is often a transition season for us. This week we’ll return to the themes of trusting God, believing God will provide, and living with the “tests” that everyday life provides.

The Theme in Art:
Bread of Heaven by Nancy Delgado
Nancy Delgado painted a scene strongly suggestive of the last supper, but titled it “Bread from Heaven” which draws specifically from Jesus’ words in John 6, far removed from the events of the Last Supper. What elements of this scene stand out to you? What makes this look like the last supper or could this represent a normal meal with Jesus and the disciples?
The Theme in Song:
The Hymn “Bread of Heaven, on Thee we Feed” is a simple and beautiful testament to the mystery that is “communion with Christ.” We feed on Him a challenging and comforting word. He sustains us, he is faithful, his body is true food and his blood is true drink. When we consider how God saved Israel in the WIlderness from death by supplying manna, how much more has he provided rescue for the whole world through Jesus the Son.
