I Saw The Sign: Part 3
What are you looking for when you come to Jesus? Fulfillment? Purpose? A little help for the day? Eternal life?
We need to think about this question - because Jesus can provide for all our needs, but we have one ultimate need that runs deeper than any other. Life itself. Jesus declared to the people to taught that “I am the bread of life” . This is a shocking word - a blasphemous word if it isn’t true. Jesus is saying he is the one who can give you life and sustain it completely.
How does he make it clear that he has this power? By showing that he can provide physical bread. He leads us to consider his invisible power by leading us as far as our physical sight can take us.

Questions to Ponder:
Do you think Jesus’ main point in this story is “eternal life,” or is it primarily a story about his compassion on the crowds? Can it be both?
What was “the test” Jesus was giving Phillip?
Does this story and what follows in verse 22 to the end of the chapter shape your view of taking Communion? How are we supposed to think of ourselves as “eating Jesus’ flesh?”
in V. 15 the people want to force him to become King. Why would the people force him to do this, and what does the miraculous meal have to do with Him being King?

The Theme in Art:
Below is the Jesus Mafa art project depicting Jesus feeding the 5000. The artwork is part of the evangelizing work done in Cameroon in the 1970s in which many important parts of the bible were painting in a Cameroonian setting.
