Lessons from the Life of Joseph, Pt. 2

Joseph’s story in the Genesis is one of the most fascinating and comepelling dramas of the Old Testament. I strongly encourage you to read from Genesis 37 all the way through to the end of the book. There are moments when, if you let yourself get wrapped up in the story, will make you genuinely angry, or maybe even bring a tear to your eye. What Joseph goes through and the powerful words of his father Jacob that punctuate the story are very moving. There are many lessons to choose from, and we’ll dive into three more this Sunday.

Anchor Texts:

Genesis 45:1-8 NIV - Joseph Makes Himself Known

2 Peter 3:9 NIRV - The Lord is not slow to keep his

Questions to Ponder:

  1. The three lessons from Sunday’s message are:

    1. God has plans to ________________________.

    2. God has plans to ________________________.

    3. God has plans to ________________________.

2. Why does God want to save the lives of pagan Egyptians?

3. What can we do today to share God’s heart in “preserving life”?

4. The idea of a “remnant” is important in the Bible. God always preserves his wayward people somehow. Describe the biblical idea of a “remnant” in your own words.

5. Try to identify a chracter flaw you notice in Joseph. What makes it a flaw? How might it also be present in your life?

6. Read Genesis 45:2. Why were his borthers dismayed?

7. Is there someone in your life you might be “dismayed” to come face to face with? What can you do to foster reconcilation in that relationship?
