Worship Companion – December 5 2021

Welcome Back!
It’s been 2 weeks since we’ve had a worship companion, but lots has been happening around the church! In the meantime, Advent has begun! Keep reading to find resources to help you enter into the advent season this year.

The Return of Christ

Blessed Advent!

🎵Lo! He comes with clouds descending

Once for favoured sinners slain

Thousand, thousand saints attending

Swell the triumph of His train

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

God appears on earth to reign🎵

Almighty God,

give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and put on the armour of light,

now in the time of this mortal life

in which your Son Jesus Christ

came to us in great humility,

that on the last day,

when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead,

we may rise to the life immortal;

through him who lives and reigns

with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This week’s theme is HOPE.

Anchor Texts:
Isaiah 43:18-21
Romans 5:1-5

The Theme in Song:
Here’s a new Christmas hymn for you all. He comes to triumph over the shades of night! Come light of the world!

The Theme in Art:
A recurring motif in the season of advent is the parable of the 10 virgins from Matthew 25. It is one of the most powerful stories about the importance of the Advent season. Advent is an annual event that exists to remind us of the importance of being ready, alert, and anticipating the return of the bridegroom, Christ, at any time. If I had to choose any one theme in art to represent Advent, it would be the 10 virgins. I’m planning on posting a few different representations of that story this advent season for you to ponder.

The Theme for Kids:
Here’s a video introducing the season of Advent – remember, the coming of Jesus is all about his coming as a baby long ago and his coming in power some day soon!
