Worship Companion – May 9 2021

Happy Mother’s Day!

In a departure from our usual blog posts that highlight the sermon for the day, we’re focusing on celebrating mothers with this week’s Worship Companion. I’ll still include the anchor texts and theme for the message below, and you can be sure we will weave the sermon theme with the celebration of Mother’s Day, since they fit so perfectly together!

Message Theme: Take Care of Each Other

(Last week was “Come What May” – Philippians 1:12-30)

“Yocheved, the mother of Moses” by Hilary Sylvester depicts the mother of a man who would bring great blessing to Israel and be used by God in powerful ways, yet had to make a heartbreaking decision that would have been accompanied by years of patient longing and prayer for her boy who she knew for such a short time.
In this painting, Yocheved is releasing the 10 Commandments, a symbol of what is to come through her precious son, Moses, into the swirling water of the Nile.

The flower, a Lily of the Nile represents the daughter of Pharaoh who rescues Moses fulfilling the plan of Hashem (a respectful name for God in Hebrew which means “the Name”) to save His people.

Hebrew Text above Yocheved’s head: The Time of our Freedom.

An Activity for your Family!

See how well you do on the quiz below! Let us know in the comments at the bottom of the page.

You can do all sorts of things to let your Mother know how much you appreciate her! Give her a call, send her a text, order her flowers, make her a card! Don’t forget your spiritual mothers, too! I’m sure you have more than one woman in your life who has mothered you – a grandmother, a woman from your church family or a neighbour. They need to hear from you this year, too!

For the Kids:
We’ve got some great songs to help you remember and practice some of the key verses from our anchor passage in Philippians today!
