Interlude: The Transfiguration
You might think it's odd to pause our first Peter series right in the middle but as we've reached the halfway point I think it's important to step outside of the context of Peter’s letter to look at one of the key events that Peter experienced which shaped him as an apostle. Examining this strange event called the transfiguration will also help us because it encourages us to be willing to suffer in this life for Jesus because of the glory that is yet to be revealed when he comes again.
There is no shortage of paintings and artwork inspired by the Transfiguration. This one covers many of the key moments of the event, and its unique style and modern setting caught my eye. Unfortuantely, I couldn’t locate the artist’s name.
Anchor Texts:

Questions to Ponder:
What else can happen during “praying” besides just talking to God with your eyes closed?
Who else had a face that became radient while up on a mountain? Hint look at Exodus 34:29-35 NIV. What is similar and what is different about our passage today and the passage in Exodus?
Do you spend extended times praying? Why or why not?
How does the Transfiguration account encourage Christians like the ones Peter is writing to, or us today?
What is your number 1 barrier to praying more often or for longer periods of time? What is one habit change you could make to contribute to a healthier prayer life?
The Theme in Song:
Hillsong worship recently wrote a song inspired by the events of the Transfiguration, appropriatly called “Transfiguration.” Have a listen!
