Is Jesus the King of your Life?

This week we are spending some time looking at Colossians 1:11-20 and discovering four reasons presented here why Jesus is worthy to be the ultimate king of the world. I am exctied to be team preaching this message with Curtis Bergsma! Jesus sits on the throne of God and at the same time sits on the throne of David. He is a human king and a divine king. This is important to acknowledge but ultimately, we need to ask ourselves “is this true in my own life?” Is he the Lord of my life?

Anchor Texts:

Colossians 1:11-20 NTFE - I pray that you’ll be given all

James 1:22 NTFE - But be people who do the word, not

Questions to Ponder:

  1. Looking at Colossians 1:13 - Why do you think Paul calls our former situation “the dominion of darkness”? What is a “dominion” what was it like for us to live in that dominion?

  2. Still looking at 1:13, it says we’ve been rescued and brought into the “Kingdom of his beloved son.” What is this Kingdom like? Why would Paul use “kingdom” to describe this new reality for the believer?

  3. Curtis highlighted three characteristics Jesus reveals about God, they were _____________, ______________, ____________. Considering what you know form the Gospel stories, what other traits of God does Jesus reveal?

  4. Looking at v. 15-17 - Pastor Nate explained that “firstborn” doesn’t mean merely birth order, it can also mean "______.” How does this passage show us that Jesus is greater than creation in every way?

  5. Jesus is the “head of the body” - Curtis explained 3 things the head of a body does, it _______, it ________, and it ___________. Spend time in silent, listening prayer - 3-6 minutes if you are able! What area of your life do you need to hand over to Jesus and trust him to be King - to lead your thinking, feelings, and actions?

Answers: 3. Compassionate, Forgiving, Patient, 4. Status, 5. Thinks, feels, controls
