What’s on the Horizon?

After spending time with over 250 other Evangelical Missionary Church (EMCC) leaders two weeks ago, the question remains - what’s on the horizon—for the church in Canada, for the EMCC, for UTMC? These are difficult questions to answer, but when we look to the scriptures, we can see the trajectory. We’re called to make disciples, and sadly, this is something that relatively few churches are doing well. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, though, there is great HOPE! So rather than sitting back, we’re pressing into the future God has for us and asking Him to give the nations to us!

Horizons 6 - Anuj Malhotra

Anchor Texts:

Mark 6:34-44 CSB

John 6:1-15 CSB

Questions to Ponder:

  1. EMCC National Assembly happens every 2 years, the theme for the next season is ______.

  2. President John talked about the disciples having a ______ ____mindset and the boy had a ____ _____ mindset. What do these mean in the story in Mark 6? What do they mean today?

  3. Re-read Mark 6:1 - Upon landing on shore Jesus ____ the crowd. What is his attitude toward them? What is your attitude toward needy people after a long day?

  4. In Mark 6:36 the disciples give Jesus a suggestion: “____ them away.” Compare what you think their motives for action are compared to Jesus’ plan and motives?

  5. Read Mark 6:41 - Before the people were filled, Jesus directed his gaze from the crowd somewhere else. Where? Jesus models the power of prayer. We need the need for Jesus everywhere, spend time in prayer now for that need, and pray for God to multiply!

The Theme In Song:

This song produced by Lee University is a wonderful example of what young people at a Christian university can experience. No, I don’t mean recording a cool music video, I mean living in the reality of the words of this song, ina community of other Christians, at such a pivotal moment in their lives. Yet, all of us no matter what age, can look to the horizon and hope for what God is doing. God’s horizon includes our individual lives, but extends far beyond them too. Let us press on together, for Jesus and the Kingdom!
